Schlickmann Construction handles small-to-mid commercial projects across Greater Boston — office build-outs, retail fit-outs, restaurant kitchens, and tenant improvements. We coordinate with landlords, building managers, and inspectors to keep your project moving.

Commercial work has different rules than residential — accessibility code (MAAB), commercial electrical (480V, 3-phase), commercial sprinklers, restaurant exhaust hoods, and a different inspection cadence. Every commercial project we run has a dedicated PM who knows the local building department.

Our commercial scope is intentionally focused on tenant fit-outs and small-scale ground-up work — typically under 8,000 sq ft. We don't pretend to compete with multi-million dollar GCs on hospital wings or office towers; we're the right fit for the dental practice, the boutique retail store, the family restaurant.

Common Questions About Commercial Construction

Yes. Massachusetts Architectural Access Board (MAAB) rules apply to most commercial projects — accessible bathrooms, ramps, door widths, signage, and counters. We coordinate every MAAB review with the local board and the access board's regional office.

Yes — for tenant fit-outs in active retail centers, occupied medical offices, or restaurants near a soft opening, we frequently work 6 PM–2 AM or full weekends. Schedule premium runs about 30% over standard daytime rates.

Yes. Type-1 hood ventilation, grease traps, FRP wall panels, MA Health Department approvals, and ANSUL fire suppression coordination — we've built ~15 restaurant kitchens across the metro.

We've worked on Main Street tenant build-outs in historic districts in Concord, Lexington, Salem, and downtown Boston — coordinating with local Historic District Commissions on storefront preservation, signage, and exterior changes.
